Overview

Last mile DSPs for Amazon and Yodel were drowning in spreadsheets, PDF packets and missed compliance deadlines. 
As one of the product designers on the SAM Onboarding team, I focused exclusively on the web platform reimagining the interface that dispatchers, fleet managers and compliance officers live in every day. Starting with the deadliest bottleneck mandatory driver training I created a gate first, zero clutter web experience that lets managers push drivers from “hired” to “route-ready” in a single sitting. The result turned a multi-tab, copy-paste ordeal into one coherent workflow and became the default ops dashboard for 120+ DSPs.

The Problem

Dispatchers juggled WhatsApp threads, printed checklists and three separate payroll tools. Training evidence lived in email attachments, expiry dates in Excel, and Amazon’s audit portal in another browser tab 12% error rate and fines that ate weekly margin.


No single source of truth for docs, training or deductions. DSPs gambled on spreadsheets while Amazon’s SLA clock ticked.

My Role & Approach

I owned the web dashboard experience in three moves: Audit → Simplify → Ship.


  • Reverse-engineered Amazon’s 42-step driver-activation checklist and mapped dispatcher mental models what must be seen first, clicked once, never hunted for.

  • Designed a compliance gate UI that blocks route access until training is 100% complete; progress bars, expiry pills and one click “nudge driver” actions keep managers in flow.

The Clarity

Dispatchers stopped chasing drivers across WhatsApp and started seeing a single progress bar: “4 modules left, 2 hours est., route slot reserved.” The dashboard surfaced pending docs, expiration dates and next payday all in one view, turning onboarding panic into a checklist they can finish with a coffee in hand.

Custom training builder meant a manager could drop a 2-minute “van reversal” video after a bumper claim spike; drivers completed it overnight, incidents dropped 18% the next week. The workflow became addictive: finish module → badge unlocks → headcount turns green one clear path that turned compliance into a game.


The Impact

  • Onboarding time cut from days to hours after web gate automation

  • 42+ DSPs adopted the dashboard as their daily control tower
  • Zero failed audits reported by users during 18-month period

The design didn’t just move drivers through a funnel it moved entire DSPs from reactive firefighting to proactive, profit protecting operations.
